Fences & Patios Built for Texas Backyards

Straight cedar fences that stay straight, and covered patios that make the backyard usable in July. Outdoor construction is still construction, and we build it that way.

Outdoor Living

Outdoor projects are still construction

The difference between a fence that leans in three years and one that stays straight for fifteen, or a patio cover that feels like part of the house versus one that looks bolted on, is not the lumber. It is construction fundamentals: how deep the posts are set, how the structure is tied to the house, how water is managed at every connection. Garcia's Construction builds outdoor projects with the same trades and standards as our indoor work, which is exactly what fences, decks and patio covers need to survive Texas weather.

Cedar fences that stay straight

A West Houston fence lives a hard life: soaked by spring storms, baked by summer, pushed by the occasional tropical blow, and heaved by clay soil that swells and shrinks with the seasons. We build for that with deep concrete footings, steel posts where longevity matters most, cedar pickets that resist rot and insects, and gates framed square so they still swing right years in. Whether it is replacing a storm-flattened section to match the neighbors or fencing a whole yard new, the quote covers tear-out, haul-off and a clean build.

Covered patios that earn their shade

From May to September, an uncovered west-side patio is a griddle. A properly built cover changes how much of the year your backyard actually gets used. We frame covers that tie into the existing roof line or stand on their own columns, match the roofing and paint to the house, and finish the ceiling clean. Because electrical is one of our trades, ceiling fans, lights and outlets go in during the build instead of as a retrofit, which is the difference between a patio and an outdoor room.

Decks, pergolas and the rest of the yard

Wood decks get built on real footings with flashed, lagged connections at the house, not deck screws and hope. Pergolas add filtered shade where a full roof is not wanted. And because we are a full construction company, the projects that touch several trades at once, an outdoor kitchen wall here, a bench and planter there, stay one project with one crew instead of a parade of specialists.

FAQ

Fence & Patio FAQs

What kind of fence lasts longest here?
Cedar pickets on galvanized steel posts set in concrete is the combination we recommend most around Katy. Cedar resists rot and insects better than pine, and steel posts do not snap at the ground line the way wood posts eventually do in our wet-dry clay cycles. A quality gate frame matters just as much, since gates are the first thing to sag.
Why do fence posts fail so often in this area?
The clay soil swells when wet and shrinks hard in drought, working posts loose over the years, and moisture at the ground line rots wood posts from the inside. Deeper concrete footings and steel posts are the fix, and they are why two fences that look identical the day they are built can age completely differently.
Do HOAs have rules about fences?
Most master-planned communities around Katy and Cinco Ranch do: typical rules cover height, style, staining and which side faces the street. Approval is between you and your HOA, and we build to whatever spec your community requires. Like-for-like replacement of an existing approved fence is usually the simple path.
Can you build a covered patio that matches my house?
Yes. We frame covered patios that tie into the existing roof line or stand on their own posts, matched to your brick, siding and shingle so the addition looks original to the house. Ceiling fans, lighting and outlets can be wired in as part of the same project.
Do you build decks and pergolas too?
Yes. Wood decks, pergolas and shade structures are all in scope, built with proper footings, flashing at the house connection, and hardware rated for outdoor exposure.
What does a new fence or patio cost?
For fences it depends on linear footage, material, post type and gates. For patios and decks it depends on size, roof style and finishes like fans, lighting and ceiling material. Either way we measure your yard and give you a free written quote.
